If you experience an issue that impacts your ability to submit an assessment by the due date, you can apply for an extension of 5 calendar days called a ‘simple extension’.
Note: ‘calendar days’ include weekends and public holidays, so if your original due date is on a Thursday, for example, a 5-day extension will make your new due date the following Tuesday.
For assignments: you should apply for a simple extension through the special consideration portal. You will need to submit a student declaration [DOCX 52KB] with your application. Find out how to complete a student declaration.
You can apply for a simple extension 5 days prior to your due date, including up to 11.59pm on your due date. You can’t apply after the due date. Approved applications may be granted up to 5 days’ extension. You may submit your assignment earlier if you don’t need the full extension you are granted.
If you get a simple extension and you’re still unable to submit your assignment by the new deadline, you will need to apply for special consideration.
For non-assignment tasks (such as an in-class assessment, quiz or small test): you should apply directly to your unit of study coordinator via email. Make sure to include ‘simple extension request’ in the subject line of your email.
For exams: you cannot apply for a simple extension for an exam.
You cannot appeal the outcome of a simple extension application.
