Women’s Network

The Postgraduate Women’s Network is made up of members of SUPRA who identify as women.

Being a woman and a postgraduate can present many challenges. The Postgraduate Women’s Network is a social, academic, and policy-support network run by and comprising women-identifying postgraduates at the University of Sydney. SUPRA acknowledges that women often face numerous barriers in accessing and completing higher education, including the experiences of sexism within the University and fewer opportunities.

SUPRA is committed to supporting women and ensuring your postgraduate experience is as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible. The network fosters personal and professional growth through initiatives such as creative DIY workshops and career development programs tailored to the needs of female postgraduates. It also advocates for gender equality and safety on campus, working to identify and address the challenges women face in higher education.

Women’s Officer – Yiman Wu

The Women’s Officer is responsible for representing students in the Women’s Network and advocating on their behalf.

I’m Yiman Wu, the Women’s Officer of SUPRA this year, pursuing a Master in Strategic Public Relations at the University of Sydney.

As SUPRA’s Women’s Officer, I actively advocate for gender equality and safety on campus. I understand the unique challenges that female postgraduates face, including dealing with subtle or overt sexism, limited networking opportunities, and the pressure to prove themselves in an unequal environment. My primary focus is to ensure these barriers are acknowledged and improved, providing a safe space for discussion, support, and empowerment.

I am dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every woman’s voice is heard and respected. I champion initiatives that foster personal and professional growth, primarily through creative DIY workshops and career development programs tailored for female postgraduates. Through these activities, I aim to cultivate a strong network where female postgraduates can connect, share experiences, and access the resources needed to achieve equality in academic and personal life.
