Queer Network

The Queer Collective is made up of members of SUPRA that are part of the queer community.

Being queer on campus has its own problems, ranging from the hostility of homophobia and transphobia to simple lack of understanding of the complex questions of identity and discovery experienced by queer students. In many areas of society, queer students still face inequality.

Queer issues and queer networking on campus can be nebulous, especially because queer students can be one of the most invisible (but also sometimes the most visible) students on campus. Queer diversity is a continuing feature of the university lifestyle and representation includes, but is not limited to, gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, intersex, sex and/or gender diverse students.

Queer Officer – Zhihao (Terry) Yu

The Queer Officer is responsible for representing students in the Queer Network and advocating on their behalf.

Hi, I’m your SUPRA Queer Officer. As a JD student and former lawyer, I’m passionate about queer rights, health, and visibility. During my term, I’ll strive to build a safer, more inclusive place for USYD’s diverse queer community. Here to listen, represent, and create change.

Get involved in the network

You can connect with the Queer Network on Facebook or Instagram.

Getting involved with the SUPRA Queer Network offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, participate in events, and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment. Members can attend regular social gatherings, such as Queer Movie Nights, afternoon teas, and workshops, providing a relaxed space for interaction and community building.

For those interested in taking a more active role, we welcome volunteers to assist in organising events, advocating for queer student rights, and supporting initiatives that foster inclusivity on campus. Additionally, members can share their ideas for future events or activities to help shape the network’s direction, ensuring it meets the needs and interests of all members.
