2026 Supervisor of the Year Awards

Nominations for 2026 SUPRA Supervisor of the Year Awards are now open!

The SUPRA Supervisor of the Year Awards aim to promote, recognise and reward excellence in Higher Degree by Research supervision at the University of Sydney, as nominated and judged by research postgraduates at the University.

We accept nominations for supervisors of all postgraduate research students, including master’s by research, Master of Philosophy and PhD candidates.

Eligibility

• Your nominated research supervisor supervised you for at least a whole year of your candidature, and you are currently enrolled or were awarded no earlier than in 2025.
• Your nomination is for an individual supervisor.
• Your nomination must be seconded by another doctoral or master’s by research student who had the same supervisor.
• While you may nominate only one supervisor, you may second a nomination by another student for the same supervisor. There is no limit to the number of nominations you second, so long as the nominee was one of your supervisors.
• Previous nominees are eligible for this year’s awards, so long as the previous conditions are followed.

Judging criteria

Nominees will be assessed against the following criteria:

• your supervisor’s availability
• your supervisor’s clear and timely communication with you
• their support for you and your candidature
• their mentoring of you, including their genuine interest in your research and your professional growth
• their sharing of their expertise and facilitating of your networking opportunities.

Nominations close 11:59pm on Monday 31 August 2026.
