Notice of election: SUPRA Council casual vacancies 2024

Due to a technical issue with SUPRA’s email accounts, some nominations may not have been received. If you have sent a nomination but did not receive a reply, please forward your email to both the SUPRA Co-Presidents and Co-Secretaries.

The election for these SUPRA Council vacancies has been postponed until the September Council Meeting at 6:30pm on Thursday 26 September 2024.

SUPRA is now accepting nominations for General Councillor vacancies. This is a great opportunity for postgraduate students to get involved and represent their peers.

Nomination period:

Opens: 5pm, Wednesday 21 August
Closes: 5pm, Thursday 5 September

Eligibility:

Must be a current postgraduate student at the University of Sydney.

To nominate yourself, submit a 200-word candidate statement via email to the SUPRA Co-Presidents and Co-Secretaries:

SUPRA Council General Election 2024

The General Election is the main election to instate twenty seven (27) General Councillors. The General Election is now complete and the elected candidates have been announced. The candidates who have been elected to council will begin their term on Monday 1 July 2024 and continue until Monday 30 June 2025, or until they resign from council.

The Returning Officer’s report on the General Election was delivered at the SUPRA Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 13 May 2024.

Supplementary Election

Following the General Election, 2 vacant positions remained on SUPRA Council reserved for 1 (one) student located at a campus other than Camperdown/Darlington and 1 (one) non-cis gendered student. A Supplementary Election was held at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to fill these vacancies and the following student was elected to SUPRA Council for the 2024–25 term:

  • Sasha Bailey.

There was still one council vacancy left following the supplementary election, this position will be filled by the incoming council after the 2024–25 term begins.

Office Bearers appointed

On Monday 27 May a meeting of council-elect appointed the council Office Bearer roles for the 2024–25 term. The councillors listed below started their positions on 1 July 2024.

Co-Presidents: Xinxin (Frona) Wan and Xiaoyun (Vivian) Bai
Co-Vice Presidents: Xingyan Zhou and Qiuming Zhang
Education Officer: Weihong Liang
Co-Secretaries: Yuhang Li and Venkata Vishal Kotari
Treasurer: Jinyi (Dorothy) Liu
Co-Directors of Student Publications: Anne Ailina Li and Xuan (Kate) Zhang
Co-Community Engagement Officers: Dihao Zhu and Xinghuan Wang

During this meeting, 2 councillors-elect also resigned from their upcoming positions on general council, because they have been elected as equity officers. They nominated the following members, who will replace them on general council for the 2024–25 term:

  • Haolong Liao resigned to Weihong Liang
  • Zhenzhen Liu resigned to Yuhang Li.

 

SUPRA Equity Officer Elections

The equity officers for the 2024–25 term are not elected at the SUPRA Council General Election. Equity officer elections are run autonomously by each network. Find out more about our student equity networks.
