As a volunteer, I’ve worked at orientation stalls, chatting with new students and helping them feel more connected from day one. I was also part of the PR team for the FairFare campaign, where I helped with outreach, petition collection, and student engagement. I am Jiayi Chen, a Master of Computer Science student. I joined SUPRA in March 2026 and have a strong interest in supporting the postgraduate student community. Australia tightened international student visa rules in 2025. Sydney's rental vacancy rate sits below 1.5%. Research consistently shows postgraduate students are six times more likely to experience anxiety and depression than the general population. These are not peripheral concerns. They are the structural conditions under which University of Sydney postgraduate students are expected to produce world-class research.

SUPRA has a choice. It can process paperwork, or it can lead. I am running because I believe it should lead.

Having worked and studied across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Mexico, and now Australia, I have seen how institutions respond to pressure, and more importantly, how they respond when organised, informed voices refuse to be ignored.

If elected, I will push for dedicated postgraduate mental health resources, transparent dialogue between SUPRA and university leadership on housing and cost of living, and stronger protections for international students navigating an increasingly hostile visa environment.

In the past, I have helped organize numerous events held by SUPRA and also assisted many students in solving their problems. I participated in and witnessed many impressive events, such as the transportation discount campaign, the international student welcome event, the New Year's Eve dinner event, and the Welcome Fair event. In these activities, the enthusiasm and happiness of the students made me feel very happy and a sense of achievement. SUPRA is critically important to the wellbeing of postgraduate students in providing services, support and social connections for postgraduate students. In the 2025-26 term, I served as the co-community engagement officer where I helped SUPRA deliver these important duties. I'm a Master of Teaching student, and I'm running for SUPRA Councillor because I want to give back.

Last year, I helped collect signatures for the international student transport concession campaign. I stood at a stall, talking to students, explaining why it mattered. I also went to women's social events. Later, when I ran into an issue at uni, SUPRA's advocacy service helped me out. An officer listened, supported me with genuine care, and made me feel like I wasn't alone in it.

That's when I saw that SUPRA actually does what it says. I've seen it turn advocacy into reality—like the $5 meals that came when costs went up. That showed me what's possible when students push together. I've also watched it respond to what matters: affordable meals, housing support, graduate employment. These are the things that affect us.

As a postgraduate student, I believe the academic journey can be both rewarding and challenging. Many students are gradually finding their own rhythm between study, research, work, and personal life, and balancing these responsibilities can sometimes be difficult. For international students, living in Sydney can also bring additional challenges, including accommodation, transportation, and understanding local regulations.

I have attended and contributed to a range of student engagement initiatives, including the SUPRA Welcome Fair and Welcome Implementation Group meetings. I have supported event planning and coordination, liaised with student societies, and engaged in student consultations to represent international student perspectives and enhance the overall student experience.

Building on these experiences, I am committed to strengthening communication between postgraduate students and the University, ensuring that student voices are clearly heard and effectively represented. I aim to promote greater transparency around academic policies, enhance support for student wellbeing, and create more inclusive and accessible opportunities for engagement. Over the coming year, I will actively advocate for improvements in student employability and course design, helping to ensure that programs better reflect students' needs and future career pathways.

As a Master of Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing) student and a member of SUPRA’s Student Advocacy team, I am running as an independent candidate to represent international postgraduate students.

Beyond academic work, I truly care about making our time as international students more fulfilling and enjoyable. I regularly volunteer at a wide range of SUPRA social events, from movie nights and mixers to casual gatherings. I help with event preparation, photography, and other on-the-day tasks, aiming to create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where everyone can connect and have a good time. I believe these small, consistent efforts help build a warm and supportive community for all of us.

Alongside event support, I am also co-organising the upcoming Sydney International Student Conference, where we will openly discuss the real challenges we face and strive for practical, meaningful improvements. Through my role in student advocacy, I will listen closely to your concerns and convey them effectively to the university. I aim to represent you with reliability, sincerity, and a down-to-earth approach.

As a dedicated postgraduate student, I am running for SUPRA Councilor to further enhance my campus experience. Having served as a volunteer in the SUPRA Social Community Group last semester, I gained firsthand experience assisting with landmark events such as the Wine & Cheese Party, O-week, Welcome Fair, etc. These opportunities allowed me to connect deeply with our diverse student body and understand the unique challenges we face.

This semester, I am committed to stepping up from a volunteer to a leadership role. My goal is to transition into the organization and planning of social activities for students, ensuring they remain inclusive, engaging, and resourceful. I’m Yiman Wu, a HDR student in FASS, running for SUPRA Councillor to deliver strong, results-driven representation for postgraduate and PhD students at the University of Sydney.
This is my third year as a student representative. As SUPRA Women’s Officer (2024–25) and Co-President (2025–26), my work spans policy, advocacy, and student engagement. Key outcomes include co-developing a formal report that established affordable food as an essential student service and supported the rollout of the $5 meals canteen, contributing to the Fair Fares in NSW twice, and working with students to identify safety issues that led to improvements in campus lighting.
I have also led and delivered a wide range of student events, including launching the Women DIY Workshop series, strengthening engagement and building a more connected postgraduate community.
This year, I will focus on students' employability. I will work on evidence-based career initiatives and expand accessible opportunities such as career fairs. I have always been committed to advocating for student voices, and I am confident in my ability to deliver.

I am a PhD student from the UK/Norway and have served on the SUPRA Council since 2021. During my time on Council, I have served as SUPRA’s Disability Officer (2021-2022) and, since 2023, I have led the SUPRA Carer Network from its beginning. In these roles, I have represented students with disabilities and students with caring responsibilities (including those who are parents), organised monthly community events, and advocated for a more inclusive and supportive university for postgraduate students with diverse needs and life circumstances. My work in SUPRA has focused on practical and constructive student advocacy, with an emphasis on improving wellbeing, accessibility, and inclusion. I believe postgraduate students should feel heard, respected, and supported, and that the university should be a place where all students can participate fully, regardless of background, health, or caring responsibilities. I would be honoured to continue serving on SUPRA Council and to keep working towards a more inclusive and welcoming university community.

I am Huriye Koclar, a Master of Social Justice student at the University of Sydney. Since the beginning of my studies, I have actively engaged in SUPRA events and volunteered whenever possible. Through these experiences, I have come to see that SUPRA is more than just a student association—it is a community that values inclusion, connection, and personal growth.

SUPRA creates spaces where students from diverse backgrounds can come together, feel supported, and build meaningful relationships. As an international and postgraduate student, I understand how important it is to feel a sense of belonging, especially in a new environment. SUPRA has helped me broaden my perspective, connect with inspiring people, and feel part of something bigger.

I am running as an independent candidate because I genuinely want to contribute to this community. I want to support initiatives that prioritise student wellbeing, create more accessible and inclusive events, and ensure that every student feels heard and represented.

My name is Yi Su, a Master of Computer Science student at the University of Sydney, and I am running as an independent candidate for the SUPRA Council. Inspired by SUPRA’s mission in advocating for postgraduate students, I am motivated to contribute beyond being a participant.

My commitment to service is grounded in experience. I have led and participated in multiple teaching programs in rural China, with my teams receiving university and national recognition. As the leader of a letter-exchange activity, I built long-term connections with students in underserved areas and was awarded in a university volunteer competition. During that period contributing service, I also developed strong skills in teamwork, organisation, and communication, while also gaining a deeper understanding of responsibility, empathy, and the impact of sustained support.

I am passionate about supporting others, creating inclusive communities, and ensuring student voices are heard. If elected, I will actively engage with and represent postgraduate students.
