The University of Sydney was brought to life with the colours, sounds, and tastes of Indonesia during IndoVibes 2025, a cultural celebration themed ‘Sambung Rasa’ – a phrase that means ‘connecting feeling’ in Bahasa Indonesia.
Held at the historic Old Teacher’s College, this 2-hour event drew more than 60 participants from diverse backgrounds who came together to explore the richness of Indonesian culture through language, dance, and cuisine. The event was initiated and led by Adhi Prana, an Indonesian Language Learning Ambassador (ILLA) and Australia Awards scholar, with fellow ILLA ambassadors in NSW and Indonesian student volunteers in Sydney.
Participants enjoyed a hands-on introduction to conversational Bahasa Indonesia, followed by a vibrant performance of Ratoeh Jaroe, a traditional group dance from Aceh. The dance was performed by the ILLA ambassadors and Indonesian volunteers, who then invited the audience to join in and learn the choreography, creating a fun and immersive cultural exchange. Guests were also treated to an array of traditional Indonesian foods, including nasi goreng, nasi tumpeng, mie goreng, tempeh, telur balado, ayam goreng, and an assortment of authentic snacks, offering a sensory experience of Indonesian hospitality.
