13 February marks the anniversary of then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s 2008 apology on behalf of Australian Parliament to the Stolen Generations – First Nations children who were forcibly removed from their families.

Despite the apology, First Nations children continue to be removed from their families at increasing rates – a result of systemic racism. The latest child protection report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare shows that at end June 2022, almost 20,000 First Nations children were in out-of-home care nationwide – comprising 43% of all children in out-of-home care

SUPRA condemns the ongoing removal of First Nations children from their families and cultures.
