Recently, Deputy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Officer Lindsay McCabe was invited to meet with representatives from Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, Canada. BlakOut: An Anthology of First Nations Students’ Scholarship was inspired by Knowledge Makers at TRU, which Lindsay had the great privilege of contributing to in 2021. Professor Rod McCormick and the TRU community generously gave permissions and support on behalf of our TRU brothers and sisters for BlakOut to be launched here soon after.

This is a testament to the strength of First Nations relationships across the globe, and we hope to continue this important relationship into the future.

On behalf of SUPRA and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Sydney, we thank Professor McCormick and everyone at TRU for their ongoing support of BlakOut – Kukwstsétsemc!

We are also indebted to Master of Indigenous Language Education (MILE) students Gaylene Lemon and Stacy Longmore, who created these beautiful weavings to be gifted to Professor McCormick.
