In August, SUPRA made a submission to the National Housing and Homelessness Plan Bill 2024 (No. 2), supporting the development of a 10-year National Housing and Homelessness Plan and emphasising the need to include a focus on student housing.
We recommended ensuring ongoing diverse student representation in the creation, implementation and review of the Plan. We also argued that the Plan must work towards increasing the affordability of private and purpose-built student housing, as well as considering alternatives to Purpose Built Student Accommodation that decentres profits and re-centres safe, affordable and accessible housing for students.
