SUPRA’s casework team recently made a submission to the NSW government’s inquiry: Improving NSW Rental Laws.
The inquiry specifically asked for submissions regarding:
- reasons a landlord can terminate a lease – removing ‘no grounds’ evictions
- how to make it easier for renters to keep pets
- protecting personal information held by real estate agents
- making it easier to transfer rental bonds from one property to another
- other ways to make the system fairer.
In our submission, we advocated for:
- an end to no-fault termination for all types of tenancies
- more regulation to protect tenants from rent hikes
- more protections for tenants with pets.
