HDR students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) may have heard about recent proposals to change the research/teaching balance in academic workloads. The proposals would move HDR student supervision from academics’ teaching hours into their research hours.

SUPRA is concerned that the faculty has neglected to consult with HDR students, who could be greatly affected by this change. HDR students have contacted SUPRA with concerns, in support of staff, as supervisor workloads are already stretched thin.

We call on the Dean of FASS to genuinely consult with HDR students and research academics before finalising any change proposal.
