SUPRA is proud to launch our partnership with Hidden Disabilities Australia, continuing our commitment to disability inclusion by recognising and supporting postgrad students with hidden or non-visible disabilities. We are committed to making sure all students feel welcome, respected and supported in SUPRA spaces.
Hidden disabilities, which include various medical conditions and chronic illnesses, may not be immediately apparent but can significantly impact daily life. We know that hidden disabilities are common and that people’s experiences of disability are diverse and can change. Wearing the Sunflower is a simple, voluntary and visible way for people with hidden or invisible disabilities to indicate that they might need some assistance, extra time or understanding. You don’t need a diagnosis to wear the Sunflower.
SUPRA staff and student leaders have been trained on hidden disabilities awareness and responding to the Sunflower, ensuring our team is well equipped to provide appropriate support. This support might include offering additional time, understanding, or specific accommodations based on individual needs. Check our website for Sunflower-friendly events.
Students who have a hidden disability can pick up a free Sunflower lanyard from the SUPRA office, an information desk at the Library, or by contacting Inclusion and Disability Services. We encourage our community to familiarise themselves with the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and join us in creating a more inclusive and understanding environment for all students.
SUPRA is committed to fostering an inclusive postgraduate community where all students feel supported and understood, regardless of visible or invisible disabilities.
Our Hidden Disabilities Australia membership is supported by the University's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP).
