This post has been updated to clarify that the University proposes to remove STUVAC only for intensive and placement units, and not the regular Semester 1 and Semester 2 units.

Usyd has proposed to remove Study vacation (STUVAC) from the semester calendar for intensive and placement units. They claim that having the STUVAC break in the calendar for these types of units causes administrative hassles that can lead to student progression problems, including delayed results and enrolment disruptions.

The proposal was discussed at a Usyd committee meeting on Tuesday 19 May 2026 and, together with the SRC, we successfully argued to delay the decision to allow time to collect more feedback from students. The proposal will be discussed again in about 8 weeks after the previous meeting.

Our role is to advocate for the best outcome for affected students, so we will continue to collect your opinions until the proposal is considered again. The more students we hear from on this issue, the better we can advocate for you.

We want to represent postgrads’ interests to the University, so we really want to know what you think! Should SUPRA fight to keep STUVAC for intensive and placement units?
