In the coming months the Uni will begin reviewing all its policies related to HDR candidature and students. We want you to share your views on research supervision with us, so we can make sure your voices are heard in the review process.

We invite all HDR students to reflect on their research supervision, and let us know if you have a view on your experience of supervision – has it been effective and supportive, or was it unhelpful and negative?

SUPRA was founded over 50 years ago by Usyd PhD students who wanted to make a student union for postgrads, to protect their interests and advocate on their behalf to the Uni. We remain true to this mission, and although we now support all postgrads – coursework and research – we recognise the unique experiences and challenges HDRs face.

SUPRA has played a role in improving conditions for HDRs, including in the development of more student-centred policies and procedures that govern your candidature. For example, we’ve advocated for supervisory panels as an option, restrictions on the number of students any one supervisor can supervise, a better complaints process, and more.

Tell us your thoughts on the Uni’s HDR Supervision Policy now.

Email francine.seeto@supra.usyd.edu.au with your thoughts, or anonymously submit them below (no information other than your comments will be recorded by this form).
