SUPRA is concerned that some international students who have experienced violent assault have chosen not to report this to the police or to the University, as they are worried their visa might be cancelled if they do so.
Please be assured that as a victim of crime, your student visa will not be impacted if you report the crime to the police or to the University.
If you require support, you can contact University Student Wellbeing on 02 9351 3333. You can also seek further support from Victims Services NSW, including free counselling, financial assistance, and a recognition payment (financial compensation for victims of crime).
If you have concerns about your visa, contact SUPRA for free and confidential advice. We can also help you to apply for support from Victims Services NSW, and to understand your role as a victim in the criminal justice system.
