Dear Premier,
As the Co-Presidents of Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) we represent and advocate on behalf of almost 26,000 postgraduate students at the University of Sydney, many thousands of whom are international students. We write to you on their behalf.
During 2020 – 2021, the people of New South Wales has endured a remarkably difficult year. Our economy is gradually recovering, and we are also enjoying more social life than before.
We acknowledge and appreciate the NSW Government’s initiative to offer NSW Dine & Discover vouchers to our people during challenging times. It is an excellent initiative to encourage students to get out and drive our community businesses forward toward recovery.
International students have a tremendous impact on the community in which they live, study and work. By extending the vouchers to international students, they will be able to discover some of NSW’s most remarkable restaurants and destinations. At the same time, their participation in the economy will also offer a variety of local businesses a boost in the wake of the pandemic.
We encourage the government to consider providing NSW Dine & Discover vouchers to new and returning international students. To build a brighter economy and future that we all can share, we should come together, work together and support each other through this difficult time, and providing the NSW Dine & Discover vouchers is a perfect way to welcome our new and returning international students.
