HDR mental health peer chat for R U OK? Day

9 September, 2021 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Have you ever wondered how other HDR students manage their mental health throughout their HDR journey?

As HDR Students, we are constantly under pressure – from our supervisors, from the academic community, from our friends and family, and from ourselves. In this Zoom chat we’ll discuss what’s worked for us and open up a general conversation about how to stay mentally healthy throughout Higher Degree Research candidature.

Join two SUPRA HDR Representatives for a chat about what works, what doesn’t, and what we can all do to stay on top of the pressure and get through our degrees:

  • Gemma Lucy Smart is a PhD Candidate in History and Philosophy Science; she is a domestic student, and she identifies as a student with a disability. Her research is focused on the history of community mental health and psychiatry in Australia.
  • Yuning Zhang is a PhD Candidate in Business Analytics and her research topic is to apply Bayesian Statistics and Machine Learning in Actuarial studies. She is an international student and identifies herself as a member of LGBTQI+ community.

After Gemma and Yuning speak, there will be a panel question and answer, and discussion time – a great way to connect with other HDRs and share our experiences.

R U OK? is a harm prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. Please note that this event is not a formal counselling event, but rather a chance for us to chat constructively about what has worked for us.
