Election for Disabilities Officer

Notice is hereby given of the election for the position of one (1) Disabilities Officer to be held at 3pm on Thursday, 9 July in the outdoor area directly upstairs from SUPRA offices, outside the Courtyard Café. Should more than 40 people attend the meeting, it will be postponed until such time as a safe voting environment or alternative process can be provided.

Any Member of the Association who is currently enrolled at the University and identifies as a student with a disability is eligible to nominate themselves for the position, subject to the SUPRA Constitution and SUPRA Electoral Regulations.

Nominations are now open. You can fill in the nomination form online before 11am Wednesday 8 July 2020. If you are nominating yourself, you should share the link to this form with at least 2 other eligible people so they can also nominate you.

Alternatively, you can download a printable nomination form which must be emailed to the SUPRA President at president@supra.usyd.edu.au. Nominations must be received by 11am Wednesday 8 July 2020.

The Disabilities Officer is an equity position and has a seat on the SUPRA Council. The duties and responsibilities of the Officer are defined by SUPRA’s Constitution and the Duty Statement for the position. The position has a maximum stipend of seven (7) hours per week. The elected candidate will receive an induction when they join the Council.

The election will be conducted in accordance with the SUPRA Constitution and the SUPRA Electoral Regulations. The meeting schedule will be as follows:

  1. Introduction & election of a Returning Officer
  2. Explanation of the election procedure
  3. Candidates’ statements/speeches
  4. Casting of secret ballots
  5. Appointment of scrutineers and counting of votes
  6. Announcement of results by Returning Officer

Please note that only currently enrolled postgraduate students who identify as a student with a disability and are members of SUPRA are eligible to nominate and vote in the election. Polling will be open for one hour after the candidate statements have been made and all eligible students must cast their votes during this time.
